This is a drop-in session where you can trouble shoot those random issues and niggly questions you may have as you work on your Visualise Your Thesis entry. No need to register: this is an informal session so bring your coffee and let's have a chat. This workshop will provide guidance on sourcing and correctly referencing images, film, and music to acknowledge copyright. This workshop has been scheduled to support research students submitting entries into the Visualise Your Thesis competition but all welcome.

This contest, first developed by the University of Queensland in Australia in , challenges graduate students to communicate the significance of their research to a non-specialist audience in just three minutes. Ramsey, a doctoral candidate in the Department of Entomology , competed against 16 other finalists from U21 member institutions across the world. He became the University of Maryland representative to the contest after a campus-wide competition sponsored by the Graduate School , held last spring. Ramsey conducts research on a tiny parasitic mite, Varroa destructor , which is the single biggest contributor to the decline in health of honey populations worldwide. Originating in Asia, the invasive Varroa mite is wreaking havoc on honey bee colonies, both by feeding on adult and immature bees and by serving as a vector for five debilitating viruses.
